National citizens of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) who have an expression of interest (“Manifestação de Interesse”) or a consular visa can apply for a residence permit in Portugal without having to go to a counter of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), with the exception of minors.

The request is made fully automatically and online, and within 72 hours you can obtain the CPLP residence permit certificate.

The service is available to those who have submitted an expression of interest (“Manifestação de Interesse”) with the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) until 31 December 2022 or to those who hold a CPLP residence visa issued on or after 31 October 2022.

The CPLP residence permit is valid for one year. It may be renewed twice for periods of two years. The permit has a total maximum validity of five years and after five years of temporary residence in Portugal, a permanent residence permit can be requested.
