The deadline to validate invoices on the Portuguese e-Fatura portal relating to 2025 expenses expires on 2 March.
Proper validation is essential to ensure that expenses are considered for personal income tax (IRS) deductions.
Why is invoice validation important?
Invoices issued throughout the year are automatically recorded in the e-Fatura system. However, taxpayers must:
- Confirm that all expenses are registered.
- Ensure invoices are correctly classified (health, education, housing, general expenses, etc.);
- Allocate any pending invoices to the appropriate category.
Failure to validate invoices within the deadline may result in deductions not being correctly reflected in the IRS calculation.
What should you do?
Before 2 March, it is advisable to:
- Log in to the e-Fatura portal.
- Check for pending invoices.
- Confirm correct classification of expenses.
- Ensure all relevant invoices are linked to your tax number.
Timely validation ensures full access to the tax deductions available under Portuguese law.
