The “IVAucher” is a programme designed to foster consumption in the hospitality, restaurant and cultural sectors in order to promote a faster economic recovery following the pandemic crisis.

The Government has announced that the amount of VAT spent in restaurants, hospitality and culture, from June to August, will grant the right to discounts that can be used from October to December in new expenses incurred in the referred sectors, up to a limit of 50% per purchase.

Eligible expenses include those incurred in bars, cafés, and restaurants, purchases on home delivery platforms (Uber Eats, Glovo, etc.), various types of cultural shows, and the purchase of books, amongst others.

Consumers can join the programme freely regardless of the individual’s having their tax situation regularized before the Portuguese tax authorities.

To accumulate the VAT credit it is only necessary to request invoices with the NIF. In September, the State will calculate the final balance of the VAT spent in the months from June to August.

To benefit from these discounts, taxpayers need to comply with the following:

  • Join the IVAucher programme through the relevant website or application (to be released soon);
  • Associate a Portuguese tax identification number (NIF) to an eligible payment card.
