Paulino Brilhante Santos, Partner and Head of the Tax Department of Valadas Coriel & Associados and one of the first Portuguese lawyers recognised as a Specialist Tax Attorney by the Portuguese Bar Association (2006 and confirmed on 2013) has been appointed as tax arbitrator to the “CAAD” the Portuguese Administrative Arbitration Centre where he is listed as a qualified arbitrator to participate in arbitration procedures on all taxation matters pertaining to his longstanding tax specialization covering, among others, the areas of corporate taxation, international taxation and finance, banking and capital markets taxation. The three year of so of experience of arbitration in tax matters has proven to be an alternative tax dispute mechanism capable of a much more quick settlement of tax disputes than tax courts which in Portugal have been and still are quite lenghty whistl maintaing a high specialisation in terms of the cases subject to arbitration award.
