A new government measure has been introduced to support the return of young unemployed individuals to the labour market.
The Incentive for Young People Returning to Work (IRT Jovem) offers temporary financial assistance to those under 30 years old who are receiving unemployment benefits and sign a new full-time employment contract lasting at least six months or indefinitely.
Contracts with previous employers or related entities are excluded. The support amounts to 35% of the monthly unemployment benefit for permanent contracts, and 25% for fixed-term or indefinite duration contracts.
Applications must be submitted within 30 days of the contract’s start date via the IEFP portal. The support may be revoked — and the amounts reimbursed — if the contract ends early at the worker’s initiative or if any conditions are not met.
Valid until 30 June 2026, the measure aims to encourage youth employment, foster stable labour relations, and reduce job insecurity among young people.
